I've read posts of different groups planning to break and set new world record. I hate to spoil their fun but I have to wonder about the safety and all these load placed on the trees. What is your thought on this?

I'm not asleep... but that doesn't mean I'm awake.
I think the camping hammock folks will lose access to trees in camping areas do to groups like this. On our FB page I have removed all posts/photos related to this kind of activity.
I ain't gonna do it--scared of heights;and it's been a while since college.
If they are gonna do it--somehow get a crossbar beam in between the trees--like a header in a doorway. If it was securely lashed to both trees and fit between them with no space to spare--then at least the trees would not get pulled together.
The trees might have to be guy lined in several directions to reduce chances of trees falling sideways-if everyone rocked in unison-or wind caught their "sails".
Other things can happen--suspensions can break--drunken participants might fall out of 23rd floor. And what if you gotta go real bad?!?!?
If great care is taken they might have a new world record and have some fleeting pride. Then there will be copycats who might not be as careful.
Good luck to our young hammock friends and hope you stay safe!

Not the sorta thing that should be encouraged. Can't be good for the trees and there's no suspension made that I would trust that much.
I read when they were setting the world record that safety equipment was also used, however, there is never a caption with the picture to explain this. Personally, I hate seeing these pictures. I think it gives the wrong impression of what hammock camping really is and it gives all hammocking people a bad rep.

I takes one Jerk to ruin things for other people, So I do my best not to be that jerk or to encourage an activity that could harm or hurt another person, or lose an experience or future use of a sight due to a preventable accident. So do it on your on property and at your own risk, to use a public space for this IMO is asking for something bad to happen. Please make sure you have insurance and a good lawyer and a fund large enough to cover any liabilities you open your self up for if you do hold this kind of event. Having a medical staff on hand is also a good idea. And take all safety precautions if you do precede.
That being said everyone has the right to be a jerk, but you don't have to ....

My son text me a pic of several students hammocking among the trees of his college campus. None were double decker, but he told me stacking hammocks is common. Incidentally, the brand he sees is Eno.
I might ask him to send me pics of the most unusual ways and places hammockers are hanging. I just hope he doesn't get any ideas.
Selfishly, I can't wait until the hammock fad is over and it goes back to just "us". But I'm afraid that day may never come
