    What was wrong with me

I purchased a dream hammock /Raven and finally had an opportunity to test it out on a three day camping trip. Why have I been wasting my time for sleeping on the ground. I have never been as comfortable camping as in that Hammock. The only issue I had is I was the last one that wanted to get out of up in the morning.

Why do people sleep on the ground?

    I have seen the light

Welcome. It appears you will need to plan another trip to ponder that question thoroughly.

Yes, the Raven is about as comfortable as they come.

I have that problem also, so I solo hike a lot, LOL.

Frankly, I think I'll find the answer to world peace before I think of something for your other question.

I know the feeling. I had a 70% complete DIY for overv3 years. I can't even count how many scout trip I went on in that time still on the ground.
    Finally got airborne last week.

    Congrats!

I have also had my inaugural hammock trip recently...four nights in the air. I had better sleep than I usually do on the ground, especially compared to the usual first couple of nights I'm in a tent. I am running into back problems/pain though due to an old injury which may drive me back to ground if I can't sort it out....so there are reasons for going to ground, even if they are few and far between.

I skipped the air mat. I did a DIY Costco under quilt. It was wonderful. As far as the top quilt I have a very light weight down sleeping bag. It worked very well.

I have a week in the boundary waters coming up. Both of my kids are going to try hammocks also. We hope to test them out in the next week or so.
