Just a heads up folks! Ive heard from a couple customers (I work at an outfitter in Bham) that at least 2 scout troops will be in the same vicinity over the weekend. Not sure how y'all feel about that, but just wanted to let you know!!

The college group of newbies Im taking, we are trying to coordinate a new route...

Thanks Cuffs. Probably will not be a problem though. Most scout troops hike from the Cheaha trail head to Little Caney Head and camp or from Lake Chinnabbe to Lille Caney Head and camp. Some hike over to High Falls to camp. Little chance of a scout troop in tents camping where we plan to camp but we have options just in case.

Ekul, sure hope you can make it. If you arrive Saturday, park at Adams Gap. I'll tie a ribbon on the sign there when we pass and you can follow us on the Skyway Loop trail (about .2 mile on the Pinhoti to your right). I is marked with a wooden sign. No ribbon means we haven't made it to Adams Gap yet. We can shuttle you to your car Sunday morning.

For everyone's info only 6 miles of this hike is on the Pinhoti, Little Caney Head to Adams Gap. Here is a link to this loop hike in a counter clockwise direction.

    http://www.pinhotitrailalliance.org/loopscw.html

I plan doing this clockwise starting from Turnipseed Camp.

I don't think that we will have a shortage of water!

    Lightbulb

Well, just got the OK from my wife to go on this hike.

I'll probably have to leave Panama City by about 6AM to make sure I can get there to meet up by 1AM.

Southmark (and others), if you don't mind, it would be nice to trade cell phone numbers by PM. I know nothing of the area other than maps I've found online. Map making (GIS - Geographic Information Systems) is my profession so I'm sure I'll have plenty of maps to help me get there but there's nothing like having personal information.

Thanks, I'm so looking forward to it. I need to get out, it's been a tough last year and a half.

what town are you using for this forecast.

Oh, what time are we meeting on Friday and where is the starting point for this hike? Is it on the same FS road as the main trailhead that is listed on the loop link?

    Turnipseed Trailhead Coordinates

From Google Earth Pro I have determined that the Turnipseed Trailhead parking is at 33d 26' 39.13" N and 85d 50' 29.69" W. I welcome anyone to verify that.

Those coordinates seem to point squarely to Cancun, MX? While that's an interesting destination, I think it's decidedly outside the bounds of a Pinhoti Hike.

I don't have the coordinates. As I recall, as you travel along 281 (the main paved road) there is a brown wooden FS sign, denoting the camp/trailhead.

You must have typed something wrong. I went back into Google Earth Pro and Google Maps and Yahoo Maps, entered those coordinates and went right to the same spot in Talladega NF.
