Fire damage?

So there I was all comfy in my ENO double nest and then I was on the ground.... After a careful and thorough inspection I found the origin of the hole. There was a small hole ( aprox 1/16 ) with blackened edges. Apparently my fire that was more than 10 feet away murdered my hammock. I threatened to beat the fire up and even insulted its mother but no dice, it never bought me a new hammock. Soooo being new to hammock...ing?...here I am feeling hurt and confused.
Is this a common occurrence? How far should my fire be from my hammock? I figured that 10 feet at the minimum would have been plenty. I am terribly fond of both hammocks and fires, is there no justice? Must I choose?

Are you saying a rip started from a burned pin hole? That's possible but hard to believe in ripstop nylon ... especially from that size of a burn hole ... usually seals the edges. Sure there wasn't a puncture that cause the failure?

Yeah, I always set-up far from the fire. My gear cost me too much for it to be full of burn holes. I accept it with my clothing, but not my gear.

Hawk-eye, ENOs aren't made with ripstop. I can see a small hole under pressure causing major failure.

It's not a bad thing that they aren't made of ripstop. I actully like that material better, I think it's softer.

I agree ... I like mine ... guess I'll need to be a little careful myself. Dang nice little hammock.

Ripstop isn't going to stop a hole spreading in a hammock, clothing yes, but if the hole is situated in a high stress area in a hammock, it will keep going.

Yes, campfire embers and sparks can easily drift more than 10 feet, especially from a hot fire. The best solution is probably to set your hammock up a good distance from the fire, and go enjoy it when the campfire time has ended.

AHAAAA! So the ENO's are not made from rip stop!!! Well all righty then, I guess I wont be going back to gander mountain to buy another one. Thank you all for your quick responses and I guess I will be fabbing my own from here on out.
