    Fairfield primitive...

So about two years ago my buddy and I went to Fairfield SP and did their primitive trail. While out there we noticed two small bridges out, so we informed the main office. We tried the next weekend and they were closed due to repairs, its been that way since.

Not any more, yesterday my buddy called and to both our surprise they are actually taking visitors for the primitive area. If you haven't been it's a nice little walk of about 6 miles with a small pond a little ways in. We've caught bass and tilapia out of it, and had decent luck at it. Depending on the time of year they have water and restrooms close to the campsites. If you have not been yet it's worth the few bucks to check it out. It's no reservations, so first come first claimed.

Hope to see y'all out there.

I love Fairfield Lake State Park and look forward to our fall hang there every year.

It's great to hear that the primitive area is open again. It's a great place for a first time backpacker to try out a trip, especially for those who are not too sure about being a long way from flushing porcelain facilities. :-)

Lol, your right. I only wish the sites had water access to fish. It shows it but we only found a bunch of cat tails growing. But it is beautiful and peaceful. I hope to make the fall hang this year, I had to work last year.

I'll also have to correct myself, its a 3 mile trail, 6 round trip.

It's been a while and I'll take you at your word, but I thought if you hiked past the camping area that one would get to water. It sure looks like one could paddle there, but like I said, it's been a few years since I checked it out.

As for this fall, I hope you can join us. I'll put the planning thread up in a few weeks.

We may not have explored enough, we took the long route around and ended up turning around on the loop cause it was getting dark. Funny part if we had pushed on the campsites were only another 500 or 600 yards. (We hit the other side the mext morning) But we had never been and we neglected to bring our map.

As for fishing the lake we've never had a lot of luck anyways, but it don't mean we don't try every time. I will suffer and bring my pole for you guys, and see if I can get down to the water this time. But just this once!
