Dumb Question? - Shock Cord Inside Hammock?

This may be a dumb question, but thought I'd ask the collective.

I have an Ultralite Backpacker, and noticed that there are some shock cords with hooks inside the hammock, near the external pull outs. I'd imagine one could be used to secure the bugnet if you want to roll it back.

Just wondering if they serve some sort of actual purpose.

Not sure if they're intended to serve the same function, but I use some shockcord and hooks inside my hammock to keep my topquilt and pillow in place.

I asked them a couple years ago and they said it was to hold back the bugnet.

It is for keeping the bugnet out of your face when you don't need it.

It might be for the bugnet, but that's not how I use it.

After laying down it can be a struggle to reach the foot end zipper of the bugnet.
Usually, I open the zipper as far as possible to minimize the load when getting in and out of my hammock.

I simply hook the bungee cord to the foot end zipper before laying down.
That way I can use my feet to get a hold of the bungee cord and by pulling it I close the zipper.

Once the zipper is closed, the bungee cord pulls the fabric inwards in a irritating way, so I un-hook the bungee from the zipper and hook it on the ridge line for easy access in the morning.

Not a dumb question at all. I logged in four the first time in a long time to ask this very thing.

Additionally, the two hooks that are on the ridgeline, are they just for hanging nick nacks or do they serve a higher purpose?

I have yet to find a good way to put them to use

I use them to hang my footwear whenever I don't want them outside the hammock overnight.

The downside of course is that boots/sneakers/whatever are always dirty so you risk getting dirt and junk in your hammock, but sometimes the risk is worth it - say it's going to rain overnight and you don't want your boots soaked for the next day's hike - or say you live in an area where stinging insects are likely to crawl into an unattended boot and await you with a nasty surprise - yes you should take precautions against stepping into a scorpion-ed boot, but I wouldn't want to deal with even that...

The method I use is to loop the two laces of a single boot together using a quick overhand on a bight, then I clip the lace into the mitten hook - using the loop created between the knot and the boot, not into the loop created by the bight or it'll all come undone under the boot's weight. Each boot gets its own hook or else it'll be a really annoying tangle to get undone when you wake up and need to pee at 3am and you're in a rush...!

Hanging the boots inside the hammock will not be a mess, if you put them inside a nylon bag (like a shop bag), so if they are dirty, the dirt falls into the bag, instead of the hammock). Hang the bag with the hooks, and put them away... When you wake up, you have your boots at hand, and without make your hammock a nasty thing.
