    Primary Suspension Question

Got back from a trip today and found my 40 degree Phoenix had arrived. Haven't had time to string up the hammock yet. The primary suspension appears to be a single loop of shock cord with no adjustment (cord lock, etc.). Do you just tie a knot in the cord to get it to fit snug up against the bottom of the hammock? I've watched a few videos that talk about adjusting until it raises the empty hammock. Only way I see is shortening the loop by tying a knot. Am I missing something? Tnx

I added a cord lock on one end so I could adjust it faster between my different hammocks.

You can also simply loop the shock cord around the ends of the hammock as many times as needed so you do not have to try to take a knot out if you use it on a different hammock.

I use a cord lock too, it comes in very handy if you want to lower your hammock for venting as well.
By all means, let's argue about whether or not a hammock will hurt a tree. All the while ignoring the fact that there is an island of garbage the size of Texas floating in the Pacific ocean. Or how about the fact that over 75% of the world's nuclear reactors are leaking...

I never had luck with cord locks on an UQ. I use a double loop of shock cord with a double fisherman's knot on each end so it's still some what adjustable.

Keep in mind the length of hammock you use. I don't know about other vendors, but Hammockgear designs underquilts to fit 11' hammocks. There's some gray area with all the different lengths these days, but 11' is the target. Since all my hammocks are 10', I grab a good length of the shock cord and tie a knot. I'm guessing 6-8" shorter. Knots are easy to undo simply by "pushing" thru the knot, if you need to adjust. I may try the cord lock, but probably not.

Thanks to all for your help. It sounds like I will not need to do anything as all of my hammocks are 11'. I can just wrap an extra time or two around the whipping if I need.
