I'm often in a situation where I want to hang from a monster tree (usually a white oak), so maybe an extra dog bone is a wise idea. I'm going for it!

Also, a backup 8" loop or 2 seems smart. I'll add that to my kit. Earlier this month I spliced what I thought was a year's worth of loops in various colors, so I have them at the ready anyway.

I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

Or you could ditch the straps and whoopies and get a pair of 15' Dyneema straps plus normal sized dog bones and use the Dyneema straps like a mule tape suspension:

The only drawbacks are the price and the color...

I don't use cinch bugs so my thoughts might be off the mark, but if you make 4' dogbones, couldn't you just double them over in the event you need 2' instead?

How long are your tree straps? If you're carrying long straps, couldn't the cinch bugs simply go right to the CL's and skip the dogbones unless you need them?
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

Those dyneema straps look cool, but my rainbows are one of my joys.

My tree straps are 12' each, so they are usually far enough. Sometimes I need a little extra, but the whoopies are just too much line.

I converted 1 whoopie into 2 dogbones, and I transferred both whoopie hooks to one end of each dogbone. Excited to try these out this weekend.

Hi Jellyfish! Just to stir the pot, here is my current preferred solution. UCR's made with Lawson Equipment Whoopie line, orange (I don't find it listed anymore) 2.3mm (3/32), and 7/64 Amsteel (blue).

I recently purchased 5' Dyneema huggers from Dutch. They are not shown here since I am hanging directly off my stand. It has rained so much for the last two months that my yard has become a swamp, hence I've been forced to move to the carport. The minimum length of the UCRs is 2' and maximum is 14'. The advantage of UCRs over whoopies is that you have roughly half the cordage for a given maximum length. These UCRs, with the dyneema huggers, weigh 2.8 oz for the pair. I received a set of Dutch's 15' dyneema-polypro straps, with beetles, with my Chameleon and they are nice, adjustable from essentially 0" from the tree to 15' less the circumference of the tree, but they weight 6.5 oz.

Dutch has them now in a nice bright blue with three black stripes: https://dutchwaregear.com/dyneema-2-0-straps.html , a 15' pair only weighs 2.1 oz, but cost $63.50!

Edit: And they are not recommended with beetles!
