I would get a 20º UQ. Learn to vent it by sliding it up towards head to create a gap or pull it to the side until you need it in the AM.
Boost temps with an underquilt protector and proper techniques on staying warm in camp. Don't go to sleep cold. Jumping jacks help.
Some do well and some fare not as well trying to push the rating of a UQ.
You can't expect one piece of gear to do it all and cover 0º to 60º and not have to work at it.
You could always supplement with a pad.

I would go for the extra warmth with the HG. It is worth the extra little bit and you wont freeze. Also, dont neglect to pay attention to these guys and their suggestions with the temp ratings- hammock camping is differrent than tent camping, and to be entirely exposed to constantly changing air temperature (hanging in a hammock) as opposed to being only half exposed (tent camping) makes a huge difference.

What temp rating is your TQ? When you're in the 30's and 40's, what kind of layering (clothes [refletix?], socks, etc) are you using to keep your legs and feet comfortable?

40 degree HG Burrow TQ with insulated foot box. I wear minimal clothing to bed in those temps. no socks. This setup works to about the mid 30s for me.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking to buy my first UQ and have been going back and forth on length. I don't anticipate much winter use, so a 3/4 seems like a good option from a weight and cost standpoint, especially if people are able to go to 30-40s without extra pads and whatnot

Don't do it. You'll always wish you had gone for the regular length. The weight is nearly a wash when you add the weight of a good pad and the 3/4 quilt together. I tried this and absolutely hated it but then again I have very cold feet.

Lol. It's funny how you are desperate for him to have the same experience as you.

many people never use pads for their feet in partial length UQ's.

I'm sorry you have "very cold feet"

After it taking years for me to try a 3/4, I say go for it (I love mine). You already seem open to the idea, so you probably won't have any issues with it. And you can quickly sell it if you hate it. The pad serves dual purposes for most folks, so no net weight gain.

I still have a full length too, but that's just because I'm a gear geek.

Not desperate just experienced. The poster said he was going back and forth so just an experienced suggestion. Just remember we all have the right to answer the question and it may not be your opinion. But you know what they say. HYOH.

Need help making an UQ decision.

Your experience with partial length UQ's is still a matter of personal preference. You were using your personal preference to tell the OP that he would regret buying a partial length UQ just because YOUR feet get cold lol.

I'm just here to remind people that it's possible to stay warm into the mid 30's with no pad in a partial length UQ while wearing minimal clothing and no socks.

I'm sharing experience. Not trying to steer anyone's purchasing choices.
