    Introducing the round-turn becket hitch

PappyAmos--not a happy face when straps slip. I've been dreaming up a solution--haven't tried it yet. To make absolutely sure you are not dropped on duff.
I'll show it at John Rock.
But for others here is a description of modified becket hitch.
At end of continuous loop form a larkshead
    Insert strap into larkshead
    Tie becket hitch
Tie a slipknot inside of becket hitch loop nearest the side of loop that does not move when pulling free end of strap.
If it slips--it can't slip far--slipknot can't get through larkshead even if becket hitch slips.
    If it doesn't slip overnight
The slip knot will undo easily and becket hitch will undo easily.
The larkshead stays on continuos loop around strap. All you are adding is a slipknot.
Kind of like a becket hitch combined with Carolina Red suspension.
    Thanks for picking with me

Great! Between this and fugalster's method we should be able to put this one to bed

This graphic is close to what I do. But in step 2 I don't tuck under the standing end, I just continue with the next turn. Skipping the tuck makes it easier to undo and keeps it from accidentally jamming when adjusting.

Finish off by only pulling a bight through instead of the whole working end, just like the becket hitch.

Exactly. Leave it to Derek to do it first and show it better

"Modified double becket hitch" is what he calls it. I still like the name round-turn becket hitch because it's more descriptive of how to tie it (assuming you know what a round-turn is).

Haha yeah, I guess I just tend to learn better from videos.

Right now I use tree huggers and whoopie slings with Dutch whoopie hooks, but I have been researching switching to straps and the becket hitch (no hardware) just to try something new. I haven't been able to justify the cost of Dutch's new dyneema webbing yet, but I have Amsteel lying around, so I'll definitely have to experiment with this method.

Just wondering if amsteel on amsteel of the continuous loop near loop 1 would have the same small radius pressure on the amsteel like with issues experienced with the speed hook, if not, this is a great solution.

Good question. Since for me I only plan to use this when my straps aren't long enough, the exposure should be low enough that it would be a loooong time before anything wore out. I hope...

I love knots but IIRC when it comes to knots, it's not a matter of wear but rather the extreme bend and compression in the amsteel. Knots can derate the strength rating by 50% or more. Can't remember off hand the actual percentage but that's why splicing is recommended as it preserves more breaking strength. Personally I've not always followed manufacturer's recommendations and am fine with it but beware.

I use amsteel dog bones on the tree end of my suspension if I need added length.
