    Lightest Tarp Guylines

I have been doing a lot of research, but I can't seem to find what the lightest, smallest guylines are. I am also willing to sacrifice a little weight for:

    a. "No-tangleness"
    b. Reflectiveness.

I have been using Kelty Triptease, but it seems to always get tangled and I spend several minutes every time playing with them. This is not the ideal situation if it is pouring rain.

Also, I have SpinnUL tarps, so is it worth adding tensioners? How many of those who have SpinnUL tarps do?

    Thanks!

I don't know about what's lightest, but I use Triptease also and the trick I use to keep my lines untangled is to keep a rubber band around the loop that connects the plastic D-ring to the tarp. Then I can just wind the line around my hand and shove it under the rubber band. I leave taut line hitches in the guy lines so I can just pull the end of the line out stake it and tighten. I never leave the lines loose when I stuff the tarp in a sack. Preparing when you take the tarp down in nice weather is better than struggling in rain when you need the tarp the most.

Good point, I had never thought of that. I am constantly getting rubber bands with my blueberries at Whole Foods. Now I actually have a use for them!

Opie has no knot tarp guylines without tensioners that weight 28 grams for 6. They are made out of 1.75mm Lash It/Zing IT.

I think they would qualify as the lightest, by don't have the reflective quality you are after. Although picking a bright colour might remedy that.

    Cheers

You could also get the line tensioners from the hammock forums store I believe .5 oz each. Thats the route Im gonna go. Although not reflective, you could use a reflective/bright colored line with them.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Speer NoTangle is great stuff. Extremely light and as the name says ...

Not reflective per se but they are the brightest orange you will ever see.

Ive been using Kingfisher yellow polyester sheathed dyneema 1.5mm with glow in the dark "Clamcleats". They are 120kg test. I leave them tied on, and don't have tangle problems. Really hard wearing too. Not sure if their available accross the pond.

If you're also willing to sacrifice thickness, Dyneema/Spectra fishing line is probably about as light as you'll get. A large range of strength is available so you can match it to your application (but be sure to account for strength reduction due to knots). I certainly want my guy lines to be weaker than my tarp (but that can also be achieved with a weak link if the guy lines are too strong).

I've had good experience with Tuf-Line which is also easy to find. It also comes with an olive green coating.

    My own measurements:

    130 lb coated - 0.39 g/m (0.013 oz/yd)
    500 lb coated - 1.3 g/m (0.041 oz/yd)

130 lb is pretty thin; I probably wouldn't want to use anything less than 250 or 300 lb simply because it's too thin.

We've just started stocking the green and the glow in the dark Line-Loks in the HF Store.

And if you dont want knots, you can splice it.
