    DIY HH Weather Skin

I figured I would put this down here since it is for my HH's.

After using the HH SS, a few times,,, I wanted something that offered alittle more protection from the wind and from the humid nights , and blowing rain, that get everything ALL wet.

My first project was just a standard Dri Ducks Poncho with the mods found on here. I really liked the way the poncho added warmth, and moisture protection from the nightly dew.

I originally put snaps on the ends of the top poncho but I didn't like the way it looked , so I added velcro to the ends,,, much much better..
    SNAPS

    VELCRO

So I took it a little further and got 2 more Dri Duck ponchos,,,,after adding 13 inches to each end, I had the length I needed to cover the entire hamock, end to end. Using my HH SS as a model, I came up with this,,,,,

TOP LOAD with Zipper mod from 2Q & ZQ

There is still the ability to adjust the hieght or (closeness for lack of better terms) of the pad.

The differnce the Dri Ducks bottom made is a world of differnce.

    This was a $35.00 project,
2 $9.00 ponchos for the bottom
1 $9.00 poncho for the top and it can still be used as a poncho or gear cover.

    Thank you,,
I forgot to add these in the original post, here are the side tie outs for the bottom cover

It won't fit in the snake skins now with the weather skin on, so I am gonna make a Bishops bags with the left over poncho material.

Awesome job--I may have to try that myself! Thanks for the post and photos.

I was sitting in the house last night and the weather forecast was for a light freeze here.

I had 2 choices, a nice warm bed and the GF, or My hammock,,,,,

    MY HAMMOCK WON !!!!!!!!

So I run out and set it up, I had to try out the skin and top cover. After a few differnt combinatiins of foam pads, poncho liner, SB, and 2 differnt sleepng bags, I found the right combo for me...

I went back to basics,,,, more clothes, the 30* sleeping bag, a self inflating fulll length pad, and the SB,,,It was heavy dew as usual here, and nothing got wet on the bottom, using the DD skin.

I did get some condensation on the head end of the DD poncho top cover, other than that, I think I found the right combo for ME. The low was 34*...... I aint ready for a SNOW trip, but I am sure thinking bout it.....

That's super work Rand. Top to bottom, nicely done.

Would it have been possible to make the UC such that the ends weren't a closed tunnel but something where you could mate the two sides on top? May not be worth the effort but it would let you put on and remove the UC w/o undoing the hammock suspension.

I modeled this one after the HH SS, I wanted to have the ends so they could be attached without taking the suspension ropes down and feeding them through, but I didn't have any velcro that day,,,,,,,kinda like a velcro flap that over laps on each end.

The next one I will try it...
