I've been seeing a lot of exploding hitches around recently. That is, hitches that come undone by pulling on the working end. Many of them seem to have been invented in the last few decades. Is there a shift in knot tying that is leading to these ultra-releasable ones, or am I just more aware of them now when I run across them?
Here's a list of some of my (and your) favorites:
Siberian hitch
Slippery clove hitch
Slippery larks head
Ferrimond friction hitch
Mooring hitch
Highwayman's hitch
Becket hitch
Tumble hitch
Round-turn becket hitch
(Editing the list as people suggest more to keep them all in one place)
