how 2 hang 2 hammocks side by side w\o bumping

does anyone have any ideas of how to hang 2 hammocks off the same 2 trees without smashing up against eachother. i,ve seen a type of d.i.y. wooden spreader yoke b-4 but don,t really know how it would perform. the wife will sleep better close to me under the same speer winter tarp but i toss & turn to much.

Three trees? two close together at the head end, one shared tree at the foot. Or the other way round unless you think you might bump heads...

If the trees have some character (e.g., large branches that create a "V"), you can create a triangle set-up, as has been illustrated before.

I've done a lot of stacked hammocks, side-by-side, and "V" set-ups and all work very well for me. I don't think you'll ever get the "roomy closeness" in a hammock as you would in a regular bed because hammocks are so encapsulating. There is always some barrier between your body and the next person. Some people would say that is a great thing.

Someone once posted that instead of using a spreader bar it's better to use tie outs at each end of the hammock to pull them away from each other.

This doesn't really answer your question but you could always look for three trees to use just like setting up the Clark Vertex. Wouldn't be the same trees, but you'd still be pretty close together.

The wooden spreader bar is the best and easiest idea I use my trekking poles one at both ends. One at just the head end would work just fine though. Just extend it to the length you want tie prussic knots on the poles and attach them to your hammocks. works great. If you dont carry poles just grab a stick!

The idea about three trees is great and really the best option but really hard to find three trees that are perfect.

I've done it with trees that have a diameter of a couple of feet. I hang one on one side of the trees (coming off at a tangent) and the other on the other side. After wrapping the tree straps simply pull one to one side and cinch it down then pull the other to the other side and cinch. We still bumped occasionally but nothing severe.

That's what I do too unless there are three trees set just right.

I have also tried to hang of both sides of a large diameter tree. And yes it can be done with good results but I also found that during the winter that if I use this method that it compresses the underquilts together and I get a cold spot.

Also if your partner likes to lay on the opposite asym diagonal than yourself it is tougher to pull it off without using a spreader bar at least at the head end.
