So my machine finally bit the dust...:(

Sad times are upon OES tonight, my sewing machine is showing it's signs of an 'early' retirement, ok maybe not so early. In the spirit of a recent thread about what kind of thread injectors we all use, I have been using a Janome DC3018 (home machine) for the past 4.5 years and it has done it's job faithfully.

I think that I've put it through more use than was ever planned for it, using it commercially for all of this time and putting at least 1500-2000 hours on it. But the past 24 hours have brought not one but two metal-on-metal grinding noises, along with some not so comfortable clicking noises from the bobbin casing. Even after taking all of the casing off and spending a few hours lubricating/cleaning the internals, no dice.

The gods must have been talking amongst themselves, especially only a week ago I had been shopping around for some local stores to do some shopping at. I have been waiting for quite a while to finally have the funds to purchase an industrial machine. I have been craving the extra speed and ergonomics of a nicer machine...So Monday, I'll be taking a trip down to Pittsburgh (a little over 4 hours from Rochester) to a facility with a huge selection of used industrial machines. That means that in the very near future, I'll be going from the only guy on campus with a sewing machine to the only guy (and probably girl) on campus with an industrial machine in their dorm room .

If anyone reading this is in the Pittsburgh area, let me know and we can meet up for a bit during the day if you're available!

Brian, sorry to hear the loss of your tried and true freind.

Give Janome a shout and tell them of the dependable sturdy machine they built. Use your business as a reference to the quality product Janome built. Explain to them the hours and hours of reliable and trouble-free sewing, the miles of sil, spin, and grosgrain that his little machine has eaten up and turned into beautiful tarps.

Maybe they will sponsor you or offer you a free upgrade or repair?? Can't hurt.
That is quite incredible that you've done so much with that 'home' machine. Your machine belongs in 'THE GEAR MAKERS MUSEUM', if their was such a thing. good luck.

Too bad about the Janome, I use the 7330 and it is a nice machine. I don't know how much better it would do under your circumstances! I'd be interested in seeing what you get in Pittsburgh.

You know, for other artists who have a significant event occur in their lives, times like these are often labeled as pre/post event.

So..who will be the person to purchase the last piece of gear made on Brian's old sewing machine? I think it would carry a little extra value. Perhaps he'll hide it for decades, go into seclusion and finally, one day, it will be discovered and held up as the greatest example of Brian's artistry.

    Janome

After reading this thread, I'm getting a Janome. I'm looking at the Janome Threadbanger TB-12. Anyone out there used one?

My wife has a Janome and it is a very high quality machine. Pricey but high quality.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
