    Newb Question ...

Just bought myself a Big Mamajamba Tarp!
I know the tarp does not come with guidelines or stakes and was wondering what would be the best option would be?
There seems to be so many out there. Should I buy them with tensioners or without? Lightest Availible? and Stakes? The stakes in the forum store look pretty cool but are they the lightest option?

Any help would be great ...

Congratulations on getting that tarp, looks good.

Well I am using some cheap 2mm line I found at the store for my guidelines, also using some home made shock cord tensioners, and as for stakes I use the small titanium Shepperd stakes.

When comes to tensioners, stakes, and guidelines there seems to be a tons of options so just search around for what will work for you.

The stakes on the forum are good. For lines you could use braided mason line from a building supply store and add your own tensioners from this link here

I use MSR Groundhog stakes. But also like titanium Shepperd hooks. I like the MSR the best.

    A simple approach

Just use a light line that will hold a TaughtLine Hitch like triptease. Triptease weighs like 1.5oz/50' and has a breaking strength of 190# and is reflective. Cost $15.

On the cheap or want a stornger cord use mil spec paracord. 300' for $25
Good stuff to have a bit of anyway.

Titanium stakes are available at several places and weigh almost nothing. DOwn the page.

Or the cheap alum gutter nails.

If you want a ridgeline, tie two prusiks onto your ridge line cord, the tarp goes over that and clip your tarp tieouts onto the prusik.

Quest...The guy lines I make weigh 9 grams with tensioner, 5 grams without, each. I am unsure if the MJ is nylon or not. Im assuming it is in which case youll want the tensioner.

For stakes, Ti is probably going to be the lightest. I have a bunch of the Going Gear stakes and some MH stakes that look exactly the same.

You can read up on my guy lines and see a vid here.

    Hey thanks there Opie,
I just went ahead and ordered 6 Guy Lines from you ... !

Still searching for stakes....I'm leaning on the ones from the forum. I like the design and shape of them and at 13 grams each they are pretty light!. I'll keep researching a little ... but I think those might do.

    Thank you for the order!!!

I think the HF store stakes are the same manufacturer as the Going Gear stakes..... Which are copies of the Ground Hog stakes. Cant go wrong with'em.
