    Hexon 1.0 & Mosquitos

I'm thinking of making the jump from tents to hammocks and was wondering if it's possible for mosquitos to bite through Hexon 1.0 fabric? I'm looking at a Chameleon and like the idea of the Hexon 1.0 from a weight perspective but don't want to leave myself open for bites through the material. I'm a total hammock newbie so maybe this isn't even a thing, but after just spending 3 days being eaten by mosquitos in the north woods of Wisconsin I'm very conscious of the little buggers.

Yes. Most single layer are susceptible. You could spray with permithrin, or get a double layer

Cabmanhang is correct. The only thing I would add is that you are likely to have some sort of bottom insulation under most circumstances which would mitigate the single-layer issue. Most people find they need insulation when the overnight temps hit 70 or so.

Yeah they shouldn't be an issue because of this. The only problem would be if you're doing some daytime lounging without the underquilt.

Lots of hammock options out there, but I'm on my second summer using my custom SLD Trail Lair made out of Hexon 1.0, that Jared got to me about 4 days after ordering it. I just got back from a 5 day trip where I had some biting flying critters and never had an issue at all. Note, I also sprayed it with permetherin.

I would be using an underquilt, and treating with permethrin so it sounds like I should be ok. Thanks for the input everyone!

Treat with permethrin. On one of my last trips I had an UQ (granted it was vented) and I got absolutely rocked by mosquitoes on my backside. I was using a chameleon in Hexon 1.0. Since treating with permethrin it has gotten a lot better.

Any tips from someone that has sprayed their hammock with permethrin? I recently purchased a Chameleon in 1.60 Hexon with the bugnet. Spent 2 nights in it this weekend. I could hear the mosquitos buzzing around my head anytime I woke up during the night (Outside of my setup). I was thinking I would hang it, flip it over and spray the bottom. OK to spray the bugnet also? I would like to treat with permethrin to keep them from biting through the fabric.

You can spray or soak the entire hammock and bugnet. It will help keep them away from your campsite also. You will not damage your hammock
