Using metal mitten hooks on tarp ridge line

I think I posted the original in the wrong topic so I'm putting it here too.

At boy scout camp this year I setup my hammock and tarp instead of staying in the Adirondacks
It was my first outing using these mitten hooks on my tarp ridge line. I was concerned about their small size with the amount of tension I would be putting on them. Needless to say they held up perfectly. We had several hard rains and at the end of the week they showed not signs of stretching, bending or breaking

    Here's what I used.

No trees were killed in the sending of this message. However a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

I have a bag of those clips as well. I was using one in the fashion you might use a Dutch Hook, at the end of the crl. I've also used them spliced into a prussik on the crl. I've always removed the little metal bail to make them easier to connect/disconnect.

I'll caution you that I've had two snap under tension. They appear to be cast aluminum and while they are cheap and versatile, they aren't all that strong. I can't think of any instance where I using them now.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I use the same setup. Except I use the 1/8 polypropylene braided cord from the boating section at walmart. I really like that stuff. It's cheap, plenty of colors, doesnt tangle, holds and releases knots well. It's not the strongest per say, and does have some stretch, but works great in my opinion. I have had no failures out of the cord or the hooks. I also put shock cord loops on my tie outs. Works great.

Recommend using micro binners, stronger and easier to open.
