There is also the possibility that most states are scrutinizing their parks for possible cutbacks. Those with higher usage may be more likely to survive the 'cut'. So, maybe the HF group was more welcome than imagined.

Because we were already there! They plowed after we parked a dozen cars in the parking lots at each end of that road.

Only the 4WD vehicles would have gotten out of either parking lot otherwise!

Some of us that chickened out should have called the state park. I'll bet they could have told us ahead of time that they would have the road accessible by midday Sunday.

    26 hangers, 3 groundlings* & 2 youngsters (Thing 1 & Hollow Leg).

We too thought the road to the campground was plowed for us. It was GREATLY APPRECIATED by all!

Question: should we send a thank you to the rangers & snow plow guy, or should we stay "In the shadows"? I think they would appreciate it and I feel they very much deserve a hearty "Thank You VERY MUCH!", but maybe then they would have to acknowledge us, & just maybe have to keep us from having our get together there. I honestly don't know

*2 of the groundlings are hangers, but caution was the name of the game in those weather conditions & a tent seemed the best/safest for them. We always said "All are welcome!".

MacEntyre, good to hear that report from the GHSP Rangers. It had to be obvious for some time that a group was coming to Wise Shelter in late Jan.
I felt that even though our group size was beyond what it should be, they had probably seen signs of us being responsible for ourselves & the park & that's why they never expressed a concern.
When 2Questions reported that the road to the campground had been plowed, I felt like it might have to do w/ them knowing that a group was coming in. Why else would they plow that road?

Good work on the trail maintainable guys & leaving the shelter area in good shape!!! Thanks!

Not sure if this is kosher or not, but I did find a webshots converter if you prefer a JPG file.

I did download it and install it. Thusfar it appears to be cooty free.

How about ONE thank you... shall you write it, Doc?

After a career spent pulling people's fat out of the fire, I can count the "Thank you's" on one hand.

It is always appropriate, and always appreciated.

I gave the snowplow guy a thumbs up, a smile and a wave as I drove by. Not as effective as the formal thank you, but I think he got the message.

We passed by the snow plow on the way out and gave him a thumbs up and a big smile. He waved and smiled back, but I'm sure a thank you note wouldn't hurt.

Being from Alabama I was very impressed by the road conditions up there. They were certainly prepared and out working early because we saw very little ice on the roads we took out. If that kind of snow got dumped down here everything would shut down for a month
