    Video: Amok Segl Review

I just finished up the review on the Amok Segl. It's a solid hammock in my opinion. Nothing fancy, a gathered end hammock made from Robic material. I really love the suspension. The set up is light and packs down really small. They are giving a discount on the hammock if you use the code FRIENDSOFAMOK .

I love my draumr, and really like the cinch buckle suspension, but even with discount $100+ USD is just way too much for a simple gathered end

I was pretty disappointed to see that instead of offering a decent hammock for a market without good options (try finding a simple 11' camping hammock in Europe...), Amok came out with yet another hipster hammock. There are enough short hammocks available, and some are as light (or even lighter) and expensive as the Segl. Factor in the lifespan of a fabric that thin, and it's even more expensive. I guess Amok mainly wants to sell the Draumr. Still, it's sad to see that they missed a chance.

And by the way - I'm only 5'4" but 9.4' is way too short for me to be comfortable.

to be fair, they're marketing it as a mainly lounging hammock.

and I have seen a ton of folks that seem to love to sleep bathtub style (foot against the end, and head resting right against the gathered end)

I don't get it, but to each their own

    but yeah, so over priced

That's true. But I still don't understand why they decided to make a short hammock when the market is already full of short hammocks. With an 11' hammock they could have won a lot of new customers.

I think most simply don't know better. If you have never tried a longer hammock, a short hammock is still more comfortable than the ground most of the time. I don't know many people who tried a +10' hammock and went back to a shorter hammock for more comfort.

Well, they have to import the fabric from the US. If they sew the hammock in Norway, the price is not so bad. Especially since it seems to include a decent suspension, biners and shipping. If they were to sell an 11' hammock made from 1.6oz HyperD XL with the same suspension, I would say that the price is not cheap, but not super expensive either.

I have no idea what the motives behind making a short gathered end hammock with a price point that high are. I can tell you that I will report back to Mikel with the complaints, likes, dislikes etc. That's the reason he sent me the hammock, to get you guy's feedback on it. I have asked him if Amok plans on making a longer hammock, if they plan on making a bug net and a Tarp. I will post his response below. Again, I don't work for Amok I'm just a regular guy like you that likes to go hammock camping. I do love reviewing stuff because it lets people like youeslf make a decision before buying easier, regaurdless whether you purchase or not. I didn't post the video to sell you a hammock. I did it just to bring you informtion on a farily new product from Amok.

1.Do you guys plan on making at bug net for the Segl, at some point?

We look at Segl as an everyday hammock. Mostly to be used for short breaks and naps during day-time. Add-on products may be relevant in the future, but it is not the main focus right now. We wanted to make a plug'n'play hammock we could use together with Draumr, for more spontaneous breaks and kick-backs.
There are so many gathered end hammocks with additional gear on the market.
    But no plug'n'play hammocks.
We needed a gathered-end we could use on own, that had a seamless user experience, and that was small enough to bring with us - even when we were not planning on using it (just in case).

    2. I noticed the tarp that you guys offer for the Dramur 3.0 doesn't quite fit with the Segl, do you guys have plans to make another tarp that will have complete coverage of the Segl ?

The Draumr tarp is designed for Draumr. It is not a perfect fit for Segl, but with some banana adjustment it works. For more info see answer #1.

    3. Do you guys have any plans to make a longer size Segl?

How long would you need it to be?

I busted a gut at the end of this video.
I think this is a hammock that is targeted toward the college towns of america and it should do well there if they can afford it but with ENO's being less expensive it's going to be a rough market to crack.

if the Segl was $50, I'd be tempted for what it is

but at well over $100, it's a lol
