Beginner's Blackbird review and customer service experience

The Labor Day sale gave me an excuse to stop reviewing Warbonnet hammocks and actually buy one.

My purchase was a Blackbird DL 1.7 with the webbing/buckle option. I ordered it late Monday evening and received it on Saturday morning here in VA. I received an initial email upon ordering and a follow-up shipping email on Thursday. The order was well packed and accurate.

The look and feel of the material gave me a sense of comfort that I made a wise purchase. I would describe the hammock feel as "silky strong". The netting and straps all looked very well made.

Setup could have taken 2 minutes, but I like to take my time with things and so it took 5. I'm not mechanically inclined yet I had no trouble with the initial hang. Watching about a hundred YouTube videos and reading the forum for endless hours helped here.

I got in and scootched around to find a comfortable position. My initial comfort rating was 6 or 7 out of 10. I hopped out, raised the tree straps a few inches on each end (6' high), raised the foot end a few more inches, and staked the tie outs further out. I scootched some more and my review jumped to 9.9 out of 10 (nothing is perfect). It is not hard to find the sweet spot, but you will have to scootch and probably shift towards the head end a bit.

I sleep in about 50 positions each night in my bed, but I was comfortable in the Blackbird using just 2. Sleeping on my back and "sort of" on my right side were both extremely comfortable. I'm 5' 7" and weigh 155 lbs and this hammock fits me perfectly.

Thank you to Brandon and others for providing the products and service that you do!

Congrats on the new equipment. There are countless stories about how Brandon and crew have made many of us happy and hanging comfortably.

Thanks TrailSlug. My virtual shopping cart alternated between the BB, XLC, and RR about 50 times over the course of a few months. The sale price was the deciding factor. 10' vs 11' and gathered end vs bridge can paralyze your decision process. My initial reviews are all positive. I'll try and dredge this up next year after I've had a chance to sleep out for a few dozen nights.

I'm sure you'll be happy in your new BB!

One hint - your tarp looks a bit short and should extend to cover the hammock ends completely.

Let us know when you convert to Whoopi slings.

I couldn't decide either - so I bought both - a WBBB XLC DL and a WBRR DL. I still can't decide which one I like better so I alternate often. Today it's so beautiful here in WI that I'm outside in the yard working from my RR with a Superfly tarp for shade. Much better than going into the windowless office. Glad that you are satisfied with your choice.

Try to figure 4 a leg on one side or the other. You will soon have a third method of sleeping. Although it is actually a modification between sleep method 1 and 2. We can call it 1.5!

I still love my WBBB over the XLC. I am just old fashioned. Congrats and wishing you many more sleepful nights.
