    Kid Hammock

My son is asking to go camping with Daddy. What should I get him? He is 5 years old and about 3 feet tall. I have seen stuff on here about tadpole hammocks. What are my option here?

Randy at Dream Hammock, made my two kids custom length hammocks for indoor use. We got them at 7 and 5. They have worked great for the last three years as bed replacements. I am sure if you emailed him he could help you out.

Jared at Simply Light Designs makes a trail lair in a kids version. I haven't yet gotten one for my kids, but am considering it.

The original grand trunk skeeter beeter hammock at 9'x4' would work well, and fit him until he's a teenager. I have 2 if you're interested.....

Started the hammock brain washing with my son at age 5 as well. We started off with a Grand Trunk Nano. 20 bucks from amazon out the door. Lasted him until I eventually got the DIY Bug and built him a custom one myself.

I made a DIY 10.5' hyper D 1.6 for my kiddo (4). I got the kit from ripstop by the roll. Easy to build and I felt Awesome seeing his face when he got it on his birthday. I'm sure I'll have to replace it long before he hits the teen years, but I believe it will be extremely durable. It also matches my hammock in length so it makes it much easier set up when we hang bunk style or side by side.
Where the trail ends the adventure begins!

My girls use one of mine when we go camping. However to see if they liked it, i first bought a cheap nylon one off of amazon for my youngest at the time think she was 7 and it cost like $18.95. She loved it. Then i made 2 DIY, one for each girl to hang in the rooms permanently.

Now this is only based on my use case. When i go hiking, its noramly just me or me +1, so them using one of mine is no big deal. And that +1 is more often my wife. So i decided against child size they grow out of. I spend so much on clothes they only got to wear for 6 months before out growing it, i figured it was best to buy adult size hammocks. This way when they leave the nest, they can take a set with them. My oldest is 17 and a senior. This time next year he will probably be in college and i'm hoping he takes a complete hammock set with him.

    just some thoughts.
When the wife asks, I simply say "Shug made me do it".

I would definitely not get a high dollar hammock for your kid, the skeeter beater is a definite good choice. Also check out woot.com they have a deals on hammocks that would probably be great for your kid.

Here's a quick vid I just did of the one I made for my 5yo daughter. Nothing special , just polyester fabric, 550 cord and 75# rated UST carabineers to attach the RL. I used a Beckett Hitch to attach it to the 1.5" poly straps.....
