Longer hammocks have less CRP Calf Ridge Pressure
You might like an 11 foot by 5 and a half foot hammock, or longer
My hammock is 12x6--very comfortable--not for everyone, will need a larger tarp, larger bugnet, and larger pack.
    Good luck

At 5'4" I find my minimum hammock comfort length to be 11'. I still have to use a cushion, but then I do have knee and ankle issues. Everyone is different of course, but if a different hammock is in the cards at all you may just find that an 11 footer could be your easiest/quickest route to a more comfortable lay. You may find a few inches extra width beneficial as well. 60" is perfect for me but 62" is also good without having excessive fabric flopping around.

You might try an inflatable pad inside the hammock. I use Exped Synmat 7 MW UL or a Downmat 7 LW UL in both my DH Raven and hammocktent 90 degree. I have also used a variety of other inflatable pads from Thermarest too. I can augment with a UQ with the Raven or a DIY down UQ in the hammocktent if needed. The hammocktent 90 degree is also a superb side sleeping hammock, albeit it does have height/weight limitations.

You might also try pillow between the legs and is the pain localized? You know ache ankle, knee, calf, thigh, toes?

I have found that sliding more towards feet or footbox, followed by "pushing" / "pulling" the hammock fabric with the heel of my feet and then figure four one or the other leg for comfort. Once I do this, it is very close to the sweet spot and I just shift slightly to the head end and "settle" in for comfort. Repeat a few times as the fabric gives slightly and usually fall asleep for a restful night.

Longer hammock. It really is quite amazing but 11' makes all the difference (that and the fabric). Been there, done that.

BTW.....I am 5'9" and sleep comfortably on my side or my back in my hammock. My favorite two: Wilderness Logics Night Owl (have slept in it every night for months at a time) and my Dutch single net less Hexon 2.4.

I do agree it may be something i just have to get used to with sleeping this way.
Many good suggestions have already been suggested.
I do have to as why haven't you just rolled over on your side to go to sleep.
I do, many here side sleep in their gathered ends. Don't be afraid to roll over and wiggle around until you feel comfortable.
I like a thin sit pad between my knees(im old) and an air pillow to support my head.
I sometime like to sleep on one arm so I wear light gloves to keep that hand from freezing.

Leg ache cured and slept great! Just spent two more nights in the Smokies and had my best hammock sleep yet!

The fix for me was getting my structural ridgeline set and my sag right. Now I can sleep on my side and get my legs off of the calf ridge.

Thanks for all of the replies!
