Looking for scenic place to hang a hammock before a Notre Dame Football game in late October

I'm taking my son and nephews to the NC State - Notre Dame football game in late October.
Looking for a scenic place to hang a hammock within a reasonable driving distance from South Bend, IN.
I looked at Indiana Dunes State Park but it looks like all the camping spots are booked. Don't know if you are allowed just to hang a hammock anywhere you want at Indiana Dunes....sort of doubt it.
Any good recommendations of where we can hang our hammocks within a 2 hour drive of South Bend? We'll be coming from WVa up 64/77. Thanks!

Come on up to Battle Creek and hang at Fort Custer Recreation Area. We have a campground. I spend most of the fall there on the weekends so I can hang and still work 5 days a week.

Ely Lake Campground in Allegan, MI was recommended to me by another member a while back. It looks a like a good hanging spot.

Pokagan SP in Angola Indiana is 1:22 minutes from South Bend.
Potato Creek SP near Libertyville, is closer at 40ish minutes.
Both offer some good hammock sites, but it is hit or miss. Lakeside areas and trails at each.
The Dunes is hard pressed to find sites. It is nice and "big lake" scenic. No, you can not hang anywhere at the Dunes. It has a thoroughly enforced backwoods policy.
Late October, the showers and flush toilets may be shut down at the state parks? Check with each park.
Nothing with Wow scenery. Just woods and inland lakes.

Warren Dunes Park should be a good place for you. Checked the website and it looks like there is availability in the end of October.

Are your son or nephews part of a scout troop ? We have a couple of camps in the area that would probably be available.
