    Enclosure idea?

Thru hiking the colorado trail this summer. Just bought 2 hh hammocks and have an idea fpra shelter. I want to stack or "bunkbed" the hammocks then attach to the top hammocks tarp sides "like a skirt" it'll be about 6 feet of fabric on each side able to touch the ground completly. You can pitch the side open or close the ends around the lines like a tent, maybe put some velcro to close conntect both sides. Hope this draws enough of an image in your minds, any imput?

Interesting first post. Welcome to the Forum. I have family in CO Springs - it's a great place.

Your idea could work. Would the skirt part be permanently attached or able to be detached? Are you looking for bug protection or weather protection? With HHs, bug protection should be taken care of. Are you going to have zipper mods installed on the HH? I would suggest you do if you're thinking of hanging one over the other. What's the idea behind stacking the hammocks?

You might check out the JRB hammock hut.

Stormcrow made a bunk bed this weekend, in a snowstorm, using a regular winter tarp.

Pokey got this picture and this one of Stormcrow's setup.

Of course, it is much easier using hammocks that don't have structural ridgelines, permanent bugnets, or BEEPs (Bottom Entry/Exit Portal).

You could sell your HHs, buy two Warbonnet Travelers and a Backwoods Daydreamer Winter Dream tarp, with money left over!

Sorry if this isn't what you were looking for...

    Welcome!

Welcome! You ought to come to the winter hang next month and test your idea there. Plenty of "pros" will be there. You'll get some good advice.

    Glad you're here.

I got the deal on buy one get the scout free, the plan is to use the scout tarp and sew the sides on as not to ruin my nice asymultra light tarp, the idea is to sleep side by side when able with the trap and sides pitched out, then when needed on cooler nights enclose the hammocks fully, one 4 or 6 inch off the ground the next 4 inch above the line, i , tall enough to sit in the hammock with a 6inch step. Once in my weight lowers it where I can get right out with no step. I can stradle the lower hammock without issue when entering or exiting, I'm 18 so can handle the fall if not

Yup, that's got to be stormcrow's set-up. You can tell because his pack exploded all over the ground! He's probably got a couple of piles in other places, too!

    Hey stormcrow!

Ha Jerry ... saw that first hand in Linville Gorge ... looks like twice the volume of his pack once it's "dispersed"

As long as you can handle the condensation, I think it would work. You can also look at ways to hang the hammocks side by side...there are several threads here re: hanging two hammocks under one tarp. I still hang side by side with my 10 y/o son, but it might be a little too cozy for two grown men.

Definitely recommend coming to the Colorado hang. Lots of folks smarter than me will be there to help you out with ideas.
