    (my) noob question #1

So I'm looking at getting some whoopie slings, actually ordered the amsteel today but my question is would the loose end (after the bury) serve as a drip line for water runoff?

I would imagine so but I was just wondering what your input was in this.

I put drip cloths on the Whoopie sling anyway.

What is the best material for this?
My knife is so sharp it cut the sixth finger off my right hand! On the plus side, Inigo Montoya no longer hunts me.

My Clark uses something they call "drip rings". When I replaced the Clark rope with amsteel, I transfered the drip rings onto the amsteel. The drip rings also are part of my suspension system. I've camped a couple times now where it rained cats & dogs and from what I can see and later feel in the morning, the amsteel seems to shed the rain off pretty good. I've not had any water wicking past the drip rings.
So, if you can test your line at your house without any type of something there to divert the rain, test it. If you can't, then put something on your line for a drip line. Better to be extra safe than wake up the next morning with each end of your hammock soaking wet.

Sometimes the loose end doesn't exit the bury pointing down. Depends on how the line twists and pulls during each hang. So putting a drip line on is a good idea.
