The new "good" bottles are supposed to have the lining... which has me confused too. It seems you want the lining, but then if you boil water you don't.

My favorite pieces of gear at Mt. Rogers (besides the borrowed gaiters) were my diy down hat and down hand muff (tube) that I had made before the trip. Both of them worked quite well at keeping me warm whilst conversatin' and gee-hawing.

At Bed, Bath and Beyond yesterday, I got all excited when I saw some metal bottle foe about $6. They looked like the real deal. I think they were something like "WaterU" brand or something. Then I look at the label and it says: "Not for hot beverages"? So, guess I can't boil in those.

Then over at ****'s SG, I saw Siggs that had labels saying max temp 185*. They also had Kleen Kanteen, either the label did not say one way or another, or I have forgot.

From the Klean Kanteen site -

Single-walled Kanteen® Classic and Wide bottles with the Brushed Stainless finish can be placed on a fire or a stove as long as you take the cap off. Do not do this with a colored bottle, as it will damage the paint.
They caution about not using their double-walled insulated kanteen in that fashion, obviously.

    Also -
All Klean Kanteen® products are made from high quality, 18/8, food-grade stainless steel that's totally free of BPA and other harmful substances. Because stainless steel is inherently safe, we don't need to coat the inside of the bottle with a plastic or epoxy lining, which is one of the main differences between a stainless steel Klean Kanteen® and aluminum bottles.

I have to say that when I added the Grizz Beak! I was a Happy man! My bags that where hanging on the ends of my hammock was getting snow in them. My backpack was laying on the ground getting snow covered. I added the Grizz beak and got all my stuff in the dry and my backpack off the ground. That was a good feeling!

Ahh, Roses. We used to have one across from my college in Fredericksburg, VA until it got bought out and went under. You could get ANYTHING there for just about under $10. And not to mention it was the go-to for any theme-party costume (halloween, toga, mardi gras, 80s night, tacky sweater, etc.). Ahh... college.

    IhangnBankhead,
don't forget you can also use the GrizBeaks on your hammock as an ad hoc burrito oven.
If you had to go to ground they could also act as vapor barrier. If you had to cross a stream you could wrap them around your boots/legs, might be hard on them but sil-nyl is tough. Can set up one on the hammock and use the other to spread gear on....
