Windy ! How do you protect your head ?!

I just experienced a windy night with no hammock sock.

The evening was calm, but the wind came during the night.

Every part of my body was fine, actually, except my head, so I am thinking I didn't need a sock at all that night, since the wind did not get through my quilts, and the temperature was fairly warm, but only some sort of Argon hood, or something as light, breathable and windproof.

I was already wearing a hood from my base layer + a beenie on top of it, but I ended up with my jeens on my head, that night, as it was the only thing that would solve the issue and still let me breathe. It worked perfectly well I should say, and since I was all alone, I avoided the general laughter in the morning, but I am thinking there should exist a hood weighting next to nothing for that very purpose.

Anyone knows about anything like that or has other tricks in such a situation ?

PS : Oh, I should add that I am very bad at sewing anything.

I see you have a tarp with doors, how come you experienced the wind ... did you set your tarp properly?

For very windy and cold occasions I have balaclava, nothing special.

I use a shemagh scarf, and wrap it around my head. The cotton keeps the heat in, similar to your jeans. A balaclava also works, or a winter hat.

I never camp without my shemagh, it serves so many purposes.
    I'd rather be hanging.

Balaclava all the way. This combined with my Black Rock down toboggan and I can go down to single digits.

I found wearing a light merino buff around my neck in addition to a light/midweight cap really does the job. The slightest breeze around my neck just chills my entire body. As for the hat, I pretty much wear one anytime below 45° even if I don't really feel it to be necessary when starting the night.

Even in the winter, I welcome a little breeze into my tarp to keep things drier and more comfortable overall.

+1 on a balaclava. My UGQ down skully plus balaclava is what I'll usually wear when its below 20°, above that and I'll use my HF buff plus a synthetic beanie or just the beanie. But the UGQ skully is super warm and comfortable to sleep in.

Hey guys, thanks for the ideas, but everything you mention is either cotton-like, and I had already a complete Patagonia Capilene 4 hood going up to my nose (it's a light garment I use as base layer) and a cotton or synthetic beanie on top of that, and was still bothered by the wind going through these, - or down, which is way too warm for the temperature I was in (50°F).

I am thinking of something of the quilts or socks materials maybe... Just to break the wind, but still being breathable.
I don't want to carry something heavy, like a hat in thick, heavy duty cotton, like my jeans were that time.

And for the tarp, I didn't set any that night. No rain forecast, and no wind in the evening, so... And in general, I tend to skip the tarp if I can.

I use my hammock forums buff and hat if needed.

Try blackrockgear.com as they have a down balaclava that is warm and will provide your head the same protection your quilts give your body. I bought one of those and a beanie-type down hat to add on really cold nights and have been fine. I also use a merino wool balaclava in subzero temps under my down one so I have face protection too.
