Spring MAHHA Hang April 16-18, 2010

Hey all, the Spring MAHHA Hang is April 16-18, 2010. This is the 3rd weekend in April. (For future reference the Spring MAHHA will always be the 3rd weekend in April. Makes for easy planning.) I've been to almost all of them and each time it has been a great experience. So mark it on your calendars and plan to be there!

For any newbies, here's the location. And here's some info from past hangs that Bug-Bait put together that works for this one !

    ------------------------------------

The MAHHA Hang will be located, again, above the shelter at Crampton Gap on the AT in Maryland. The trail to the hang is accessed via the parking lot at Gathland State Park, MD.

This is a family event, so kids and dogs are always welcome!!!

Plans include a Saturday night potluck where Bug-Bait brings burgers and buns for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Cost $5 to pay back Bug-Bait and pay for use of pavilion. The Jacks conduct a raffle with great JRB items and everyone is welcome to contribute camping gear, maps, etc. to the raffle as well. $$ raised helps pay for other events going on at the hang and a big chunk goes to HammockForums.

There is plenty of parking and the shelter is only about a half mile walk to the site. There are plenty of places to hang on the hill to the left before you get to the shelter. Water is available at the spring at the shelter or from a faucet across the road from the parking lot. There is a privy at the shelter and there are also bathrooms in the park across the road from the parking lot. A covered pavilion is located in the park for our Saturday potluck meal and as a place to gather if the weather turns really terrible. Someone will mark the trail from the lot to the site with colored ribbon. The trail is easy to follow and several folks, including NCPatrick and his daughter, Tinkerbell, walked in in the dark with flashlights in the past.

We had 20+ hangers at previous hangs consisting of inexperienced and very experienced hangers of all ages using many different types of hammocks, both commercial and DIY. It's a great place to have fun, meet other hangers from the Mid-Atlantic area and beyond, and share ideas. The Jacks have agreed to attend again, and many of us really benefit from their friendly and experienced advice; so, this hang would be a great opportunity for both experienced and novice hangers to attend. We usually have a large campfire Friday and Saturday night where many gather and yak long into the night.

The location also allows for great pre-hikes and post hikes on the AT. Information and invitations by hammockers are usually posted on HF closer to the date of the hang. Harpers Ferry is very close to the hang site for anyone wanting to visit the ATC Headquarters or this historical town.

    Thanks, Happy Camper!!
MAHHA has always been a group effort by a core group of great friends and wonderful people...so, you'll hear from many of us regarding this hang from now on. I'll still be there :^), hopefully with Misto this Spring.

If I go to this one will my wife be packing to move back in when I get back? That might be incentive.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I had a great time at the NJ winter hang, and everyone was talking about the MAAHA. I am on call that weekend for work but might try to switch up with on of the other guys to get down there for this.
