I've even taken a poncho liner and stuffed it into my underquilt a couple times adjusted my suspension and it added a nice bit of extra warmth. Like was mentioned if you have the weight flexibility, and extra time to adjust your suspension you can add warmth by stacking or stuffing. This hobby/lifestyle is tough on budgets.

Ive stacked synthetics and had success but haven't tried stacking down. Like a few others have mentioned, it can be done but one quilt when its cold and getting dark and your tired from hiking can be tricky enough sometimes. Personally, I'd just rather have a 0° if I'm expecting temps that low and not have to worry. With the budget lines that most vendors have now its much easier to afford multiple down quilts and it seems like more and more people are going that route. But if you can stack quilts and it works for you, than that's what's best!

I've doubled up before, but honestly found it kind of a hassle keeping everything in place. If you're going to be sleeping in cold weather frequently it's worth the money to buy a UQ that suffice.

I've been thinking about just layering a plain-Jane (unmodified) CDT into my UQ to see if that adds any warmth. They pack down pretty small and have multiple uses. I don't know if it would be better used as a top layer or a bottom layer.

I've stacked plenty of times, in fact, I have no intention of buying a warmer quilt, I'll just keep stacking...never had a problem with adjusting them etc.
    Good luck,

Adding a JRB quilt liner to a Sierra Stealth (40° quilt) helped me last night.

    39°

I imagine adding a UQP protector and better tarp coverage (to the ground) will get me to 35°.

I think the wind is robbing me of some of my heat (see pic below...right side bottom)

Additionally I use the Dutchware sit pad behind my head for insulation.

I'd say that for really cold weather I'd rather bring a wide foam mattress in addition to my underquilt.
