After a life of car camping and day hiking, I finally at age 56 combined the two and began backpacking with a hammock system two years ago. I love every minute of it and want to go as often as possible. However, this isn't about me. From my very first trip, my father-in-law was very interested about the whole thing and kept asking me questions. I finally asked if he would want to go and he said yes. We spent a while gathering equipment and finding the right opportunity and finally at the end of September did 2 1/2 days at Red River Gorge in Kentucky. We walked almost 15 miles over that time spent two fantastic nights there, and my father-in-law enjoyed every moment of it. When we got back to the trailhead and sat down in the car, he looked at me and said "When can we go again?"
Oh...and by the way he just turned 79.
