As far as I can see from YouTube videos there seems to be no happy middle ground with this, some folks stuff their quilts into stuffsacks that are almost busting at the seams so that the down is pressed that flat.
Others seam to stuff it into sacks that you could almost curl up in as well as the quilt!
My point is how tight is right? From what I can deduce personally I don’t want to crush/damage my down but I don’t want to waste space in my pack either.
    Your opinions/points please?
until I learn differently I use the same amount of force that is asked of me when instructions say hand tighten.

I don't crank on them but i use the stuff sack as intended.

I didn't put any thought into it - when I got my 40 *, 20* and 0* quilts from HammockGear, I told them to make me cuben fiber stuff sacks for each set.

I use an Osprey compression sack into which I can stuff both quilts and my pillow with minimal effort, which then compresses nicely.

Loser sacks allow for a little more give when packing your pack.

I pack the quilt into a 90L dry bag with the rest of my gear. That way it compresses into the nooks and crannies I might not otherwise be able to fill. I pack with purpose - tarp top of bag, then hammock then quilts, and so on...

Nothing sharp in my dry bag so I'm not worried about quilts meeting an untimely death. Dirty clothes wind up at bottom, maybe in plastic bag, maybe in tiny day pack for separation. My quilts look clean and don't smell like dirty laundry.

I use a stuff sack the size of a trash compactor bag. I use to use a trash compactor bag but didn't like the smelly ones and could never find unscented. I made one from Membrane 4000 added a draw string and it is in the bottom of my pack to hold quilts and hammock. It is easy to stuff and everything conforms to the pack with all the voids filled.

After playing around with different things for 5+ years, I decided to use the stuff sacks that came with my Hammock Gear quilts. They all seem to be appropriately sized without requiring too much work to stuff.

I also like packing the UQ in its sack, then packing the TQ loose around that inside a pack liner. Stuffing the UQ first lets you contain it somewhat, then the TQ fills the voids. It's a lot easier and lets you pack smaller IMO.

I have an Ospry pack liner for all my feathered items which include the quilts, jacket, maybe a vest.I compress them in so that the other items will fit in the ULA circuit and the top still roll shut.It is much less restrictive than a compression sack. The weight penalty over my old compactor bag is about 2 oz and it seems to be much more durable.
