any weekend in january will most likely work for me. Gideon is right though... no date will work for everyone... just need to pick one to get it on the calendar. ajeads started this thread, so it's only fair that he gets the first shot at picking the date.

I'm definitely hoping to go. I just finished a hammock sock, and will be starting on a winter tarp and down quilts. If all goes well, they should all be done by mid-January.

I'll probably do a car camp at Berryman or Taum Sauk prior to that to test things out before getting several miles from the car on a cold night. Let me know if anyone is interested in that.

Unless something changes, I should be able to be there on the third weekend.

Well, I think we gave sufficient amount of time for setting a date. I say, let's set a date for the weekend of Jan 19-21?

Do we just want to do bell mountain?

Hate to miss this one. I made it last year but this is the same weekend as the VA Grayson Highlands winter hang. Being from Tennessee, I "cheat" and split my time between the Southeast and Midwest groups. Hope ya'll have a great time agin this year!
It ain't always about hammer'n out the miles....Sometimes it's about just 'hanging out"!

The weekend of Jan 19-21 works for me. My only caveat is road conditions because it is a 4 1/2 hour drive to reach Bell Mountain. Provided the roads are OK, I have it marked on my calendar.

Based on the comments so far, it sounds to me like the date is pretty much set.

Last year most of the participants showed up at the Hwy A trailhead parking lot on Friday afternoon and camped that first night around a pre-existing fire ring located a stone's throw from the lot. This provided an easy bail-out option for anyone whose equipment wasn't quite up to the brutal -2F low temp we encountered that night. Hopefully this knowledge will encourage any of you who have never tried hanging in the dead of winter to come out and give it a whirl.
