    Properties of cuben & polycro?

I've searched but not found. I need to determine the IR emissivity of cuben and polycro. Hopefully stated in something closely related to common English Like, "polycro blocks hardly any IR at all" or "cuben blocks a lot more than you would think." Ok, maybe a little more detail, but not much. I'm definitely not a physicist, nor do I play one on tv.

And does anyone know how much polycro will shrink? Is there a limit? Or will it just continue to shrink until it starts to generate its own gravity? Simplistic minds want to know.

Thank you, Hivemind! You're the best!

HikerBro, what do the letters IR mean?
I'm not sure if polycro shrinks with ordinary use. Maybe it will shrink if heated.
What are you going to make with polycro or cuben?

    My first choice is cuben
There are threads on both on Hammock Forums, search on HF and if no result, search on Google.

Gossamer Gear used to (not sure if still do) warn against polycryo getting much direct sun exposure, for risk of shrinkage. It does take a decent amount of heat to shrink it, though.

Can't help you on the IR info.

That's exactly what concerns me, but I can't find another transparent product that is anywhere close to being as stuffable. That's why I was wondering how much it shrinks. If there is a maximum that doesn't render it useless maybe "preshrink" it, so to speak.

But for the price, I can pick some up and play with it and see what happens.

There are some cool shelters made from this shelter. Quite a few on BPL, especially. David Gardner sold some.

I suggest buy the large sliding window kits, leave a piece in direct sunlight for a few days and measure the shrinkage. Given that it's used for windows I expect shrinkage is no more than 5%.

    Please post results!

I will. I'll also cut square foot samples to test at various distances from my fire pit.
