    Howdy from Texas :)

I'm in Austin. Love getting out of the city and backpacking with my kids. Been doing it 4-5 times a year for the last four or so years. I've done a lot in the hill country around Austin - mainly state parks and state natural areas - and I've been able to go farther away some - Big Bend, Guadalupe Mountains, Ouachita National Forest, and Colorado. We have tent camped mostly but have experimented with hammock camping off and on, more and more as time goes on

Nice to see such a great community of hammock campers!

Welcome from a displaced Texan. Big Bend is still my all time favorite park to go to, can’t imagine doing much (any?) hammocking there though!

Thank you! I really enjoyed Big Bend - incredible. We were in the Chisos Basin which has lots of trees and would work really well for hammock camping, except they don't allow it. If I go back in the future I am hoping to have a conversation about why they don't allow it and whether they might be able to allow it if hangers use webbing straps.

Hello and welcome from Northern Arkansas! We started camping with the kids, but are full fledged hammock converts now who love to hit the woods! Best of luck on your hammocking journey!

Greetings! Best of luck in your conversion from tents to hammocks -- once you are smitten, it's an addiction for life...

    Welcome aboard!

Big Bend is a Texas treasure, no doubt. I've done the Outer Mountain Loop a couple of times & the ground tarp or tent is the way to go out there. Would love to do the Guadalupe Mtns. one day.

I haven't done the Outer Mountain Loop but have seen a few pictures. It does look very sparse Guadalupe was great - really enjoyed it
