All,
I'm turning here for a little guidance, or maybe a little security with a decision I'm pretty sure I want to make. I use a Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro (not the lightest but I've used it for many years and really like it) and am switching to using whoopies for my suspension. My thought was to untie the very over sized rope that runs through the sewn channel on the ends of my hammock and just pass the whoopie sling through the channel, closed loop end first, and then back through itself, through the loop on the bottom of the whoopie. My only concern is that it might wear on the nylon of the hammock. Is this something I should worry about? Is this a poor idea? I saw a vid on youtube from an individual who did just the same thing, but I suppose I have some possible lingering doubts that it is the best set up.
Would I be smarter to attach it directly to the ropes that are already run through the sewn channel? Since they are thick, and don't move in the channel, they don't really rub or create friction.
I'm taking a number of steps to modify the hammock and to lighten my gear a bit. Dropping that oversized rope through the sewn channel and the use of 'biners helps to drop weigth. Whoopies save me the weight and give me continued flexibility when it comes to finding space to hang.
I appreciate any insights or experiences you all might have.
