My First Homemade Silnylon Tarp

Well I set up my DIY Silnylon tarp at the first of the week as a tarp tent shelter and put some tyvek inside to catch water. I went out to check it to day and there weree some leaks But I know where the promblem is, it is the reallylight weight green cloth. And another good thing is the seams did not leak so sewing before coating worked for me.

The test conditions where rain for two days and wet snow for a couple more. I let the snow build up on the tent and let nature take its course . But I am still impressed the total water leakage was about the amount that would fit in a cat food can, and this was for a week so I still consider the tarp usable.

After the success with the tarp I decided to make a pair of rain pant. Details will be in another thread named DIY 4 ounce rain pants.

Now this is great! I've just started the DIY thing and am a bit anxious about the bigger projects like tarps and such. Thanks, scruffy for the info and pictures. I'm bookmarking this thread!
