Looking at the Tropical as a possibility. One of my concerns is that the Clarks seem to hang like a banana. Is it possible to sleep diagonally in them? I'm 5'0".

I used to have a NA... bought it almost 2 years ago.
Im arround 5'4'', and I could achieve a decent diagonal for taking little naps, but wasn't really that comfortable with part of the zipper pressing my head. I must confess that i didnt really give it a better chance and just got a Hennessy after two uncomfortable nights in it and never used it again.
I don't think that those old Clark hammocks had the diagonal position in mind in the design, at least not as the BlackBird or the Hennessy does. Maybe the newer Clark's have improved this, not sure. But if you have the money, buy it, and if you dont like it, im sure someone here on the forums will buy it from you.

no, the clarks are not designed to be laid in on a hard diagonal, you can lay on a slight diagonal. it's just a different design, (meant to have more of an in-line lay), some folks like laying that way, some don't. it's personal preference.
I slept plenty of happy nights in my Clark.
You can sleep on a slight diagonal, but as others have mentioned, it's not really meant for that. It's intended for straight down the middle sleeping.
In the end, I sold all of my other hammocks in favor of the Blackbird. I just sleep the BEST in that one.
I love my Tropical but no you can't sleep diagonally in it. I too am in the 5 foot catagory and I'm able to lay a bit off of center but it's not a true diagonal. The Clark looks like you're in a banana shape but when you're in it, it doesn't feel that way. The only time I've done the "fetal curl" is when I've not tied the foot end up high enough. I also had to practice hanging it up quite a few times before I figured out how tight I wanted it between the trees. That makes a world of difference between how much of a bend you end up for that banana shape. To much (meaning you've tied it slack) and you're gonna be sitting on the ground!!!

That's what I thought from the pix. Scratch Clark. I really liked the zippered weather shield and the option to zip open and out of the way the screen.
i understand. when i got mine, it was all the nice feautures what convinced me... especially the weather shield and the side pockets.

I sleep great in mine. I don't sleep diagonal. I can sleep on my side if that helps you understand that it really isn't too swooped for me. The weathershield gives a lot of warmth and it also kept the snow off me at mount rogers...yes I know I had a tarp too but at those temps my breath froze on the tarp and then fell back on my hammock as self made snow. The weather guard kept that off my sleeping bag. Just my 2 cents....
I remember the first couple of nights in my Clark Tropical 2. I kept sliding down into banana position. Then I started tying the feet higher than the head and it's just great. I sleep on my side when I want and go a side fetal positions when the moment strikes.
Good tips for me when my NX-250 arrives.
