I’ll be going to the Greyson’s Highlands hang in January. Hopefully someone will have a Darien/Thunderbird they can let me check out.

Papa Smurf, what the hammock needs is a bushwack wooki.

Is that winter hammock still available and what would you be looking at for price?

This one's kind of a good news, bad news deal.

Bad news - The first time, I accidentally cut the cover as a right lay and had to reorder the fabric for a second try.

Good news - I now own an extra 10ft right lay overcover already cut. I'll offer it to a few people and if they don't take it I'm gonna build one for myself.

This particular overcover has already been taken for use with another hammock, but I'd be happy to build you one if you like. We don't have hammocks sitting in stock as everything is build as it's ordered. Just take a peek through our site here and let me know via email if I can help you out in any way. [email protected]

I notice with this Winter Darien that the vented top cover seems to be sewn on the head side (right in the hammock pictured) with the zipper on the foot side (left). This would be exactly my preference, since I am a left-lay hanger and I prefer to exit on my foot side most of the time. However, would it be problematic to specify a vented Winter Darien with the zipper on the head side instead, regardless of the lay direction (left or right) that the user prefers? Thanks for your insight.

I'm trying to tell myself right now that I don't need another hammock. Out of curiosity, though, how much does one side of zipper shave off the weight? Wondering how a similar version to the Sparrow that I have in winter mode would compare to be a dedicated winter Darien. I've been doing a lot more winter backpacking this year. I love the extra solitude it brings.

It's no problem to build it either way. I too prefer my head to be on the sewn side so that entry & exit is a simple matter of swinging my feet out.

Interesting. I actually prefer my head o the zipper side so when the net is unzipped it isn’t in my face.

    Different hangs for different folks.

Ever since I stuck an Evozote CCF pad between the DL WBBB XLC I have spent considerable time on DH and DW comparing the Raven and Chameleon. I have a SL Raven and like it, but I think I would like a DL that would accommodate the Evazote pad. After experiencing the hard and fast lay of a dedicated asym I appeciate the room to roam in a symmetrical hammock. Fortunately, I am quite ambidextrous lay wise. The Raven is a known for me, and the Chameleon is an unknown going for 25% more for a fancier zipper. I am inclined to go DH.

Since I have been twiddling the hammock calculators coincident with thread I thought I would dial in the Darien and compare it with the Raven. Surprisingly it seems to me a comparatively featured Raven is just a few dollars more for a much more versatile hammock. (The exception being the Darien can have UQ hooks added to make the price the same as a Raven.) Plus, I think the Raven potentially has a greater resale value. I can't imagine the weight difference is sufficient to offset the extra features?
