    1st question--rain fly

Here's the first question on my HH set-up.

The fly seems like it will be fine for sleeping but rather small for a rainy day 'in camp'.

If I do decide that a larger fly is needed, do I:

    a) buy one

    b) add on to my existing fly on all four sides to retain the basic shape

    c) find a way to add a smaller fly onto the ridge and extend out for space

I did a quick search and found a some information but as I look at my options I think (b) is my best bet. The fly I have is made of:
"Canopy fabric: 1.1 oz. 30 D Silicone nylon" (from the HH site)

    Thanks for your input.

I would go with option e) make your own. Blackbishop has some great instructions on his site for making a cat cut tarp. You will spend about $40 for the silnylon if you get it from speerhammocks.com. If you can sew well enough to add size to an exsisting tarp, then you have the skills needed to make your own tarp.

I would make your own or buy a larger one. I was happy I did. I did not have the skills to set it up and stay dry with the stock tarp.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

i believe your hh fly is cut on the bias, meaning that you can stretch it either end to end or lengthwise, but not both. try NOT stretching it end to end at all during setup, this allows you to stretch it as much as possible width wise. this will add a bit more width coverage, which i'm sure is what you are desiring. for some, this still does not provide enough coverage, but try it first as you may be able to make your hh fly quite a few inches wider than if you are stretching it from end to end, which i assume is the most common mistake people make when using a hh tarp. the cheapest option is making your own, after that, the cheapest one you could buy would probably be a rectangular silnylon tarp (silicone impregnated nylon is what you want even though it may be more expensive) i know campmor has silnylon rectangular tarps for around 60 or 70$ i think?
a hammock specific shape (6 sided) will cost more, but will generally incorperate a more efficent use of the material, and will weigh less for the same coverage. for a tarp like this expect to pay a little bit more (80-90 and up depending on size). but remember, a good tarp is the cornerstone of a solid shelter, and unlike tents, you can choose a hammock tarp that is specific to your needs, as most shapes and sizes are compatable with your hammock, or any hammock for that matter, so pick what is best for your needs, weather you make it yourself or buy one. many people here have more than one tarp for maximum versatility. good luck...Brandon

Thanks to all for the replies/opinions. That set-up you have pictured is about what I'm looking for so I'll pursue that one.

    Thanks again,

Hi Peanuts. No that's Panther Creek trail. Just south of Tallulah Gorge. If I had stayed at
that spot a few more hours, I would have had about 40 people check out my set-up.
Would have been cool answering questions and signing up mafia members.
We'll have to do Raven Cliffs trail soon. Have you tested out the larskhead
    on the ring/buckles yet?
