When I said clips I was talking about clips like these:

    https://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Multi...s=sewing+clips

They are much smaller than the clips you are talking about and much easier to place and remove.

While it's true you can sew over pins, there is a small risk that your machine can hit the pin and damage the needle. It also adds tiny holes in your material which for most don't matter but if you're doing waterproof or down proof, holes can matter although in the case of the middle of a french felled hem it may be a non issue.

I was taught in Home Ec... to NEVER SEW OVER PINS.

I was recently reading an electronic sewing machine manual it clearly stated not to sew over pins. The reason is pins often cause timing damage. If the machine is damaged it will not sew correctly. I have recently purchased two very nice machines with the timing not working correctly. I reset the timing and repaired the damage to the shuttle. I now have two very nice machines.

Among things like testing my stitch length and tension I sew long lengths slowly, for some reason with slippery fabric slow is better for long lines.

I use Wonder Clips in three colors-- Red (my favorite) for regular use. Yellow-Green special note like 1/2 way mark. Big Green caution. I also use the Mountain Dew color to mark where I need to go back and fix some area.

Besure to-CAREFULLY REMOVE YOUR OLD STITCHES.

Almost forgot SEWING OVER PINS RISKS DAMAGE TO YOUR EYES ALONG WITH YOUR MACHINE.
