    my first whoopie sling

I finally got around to making hammock suspension yesterday.

Lots of reading on whoopie slings and other stuff made my brain hurt.

I noticed that it's not easy to find everything I wanted in one place. As a result, things ended up being a little bit tougher for me.

I made a whoopie sling with a fixed eye at the opposite end. I did not find a to-do list for doing them both at once. As such, I ended up making the whoopie first and did the locked brummel second. Hmmm...I got it to work, but I seriously think it would have been easier if I had done the locked brummel first and the whoopie second.

When I make the other whoopie/fixed loop, I'll put up a photo tutorial with links to the materials I used to make mine, in hopes someone else like me might like to have both pieces of information in one place (and doesn't feel like sifting through hundreds of posts in a long thread to find out something important).

    Congrats on your first time.

One of the pitfalls of this site is too much info. Sometimes you wish someone would take a multi-page message thread and just summarize the result.

yep, must have been some kind of fun trying to cram the double width of the whoopie loop through the hole in the cord...

Not too long ago I was modding a guy's BMBH to use cord suspension, and figured on putting one piece of cord between the two corner rings on the end of the hammock, eye-spliced and then prusiked. I'd then center a ring in the middle of the cord (apex of the suspension triangle) and the guy would attach a whoopie sling to that. See below.

As I've tired of sewing down a bury, my first thought was to use a locked Brummel. But fortunately I thought it through first....think about it....you can do it on one splice, but to do it on the second one you'd have to cram the whole dang hammock through the hole you create on the bury line to bring the standing part through.

You can just see I ran stitches to lock the bury down

It's a tablecloth, not bedroom curtains.

It certainly was a special kind of difficult to get the double width of cord through the gap in the threads (but still doable). I had to work it a lot to get the threads to open up enough.

It is possible. Its how I make a line with a fixed eye in either end.

Dont be afraid to widen out the hole with your splicing tool, it makes getting the double length of line through the braid. This is where the dritz loop turner comes in handy. It allows you to grab the line without adding any thickness to it.

I have a darning needle I did most work with. But for that task, I had to use a thin piece of guitar string to get it through.
