    Hangin' in 70mph wind!!!

    Well......It was an interesting night.
I got in my hammock at around 11:00pm, and the wind here in western NC was just a howling then. The weather people said 60-70mph gusts were expected! I heard the calling!
I have my set-up hooked to a post on my deck and the other end to a big Hickory tree just off the deck. Needless to say, I was a bit nervous.

At around 1:00am I heard my tarp really flapping in the wind so I peeked my head out and saw that it had come loose from the deck. I had previously bought a 12 X 16 HD tarp, and put it over the ridgeline and brought it all the way to the deck and attached it, creating a hut.

I got out and reattached it and climbed back in just as this monster blast came. It actually caused me to flinch with my arms raising over my head!

After I came to grips to either lay there in fear or enjoy this evening in the hammock rollercoaster I was O.K. So I decided to enjoy it. I went up & down in the sway and really did have fun.

Throw caution to the wind, and decide to have some fun!

So this is not an abberant phenomenon that happens in my household when I tell the wife I'm going to sleep out in the hammock when it,s 10-20f out with the wind howling and the snow blowing sideways? I tell her I'd rather test out in the side lot and find out what works or doesn't rather than find out when I'm camping. I get the "sure honey whatever you like" with the squierd sideways eyebrows and condensending look like (right after I call the little men with the white coats and comfy jacket for you) that kind of look??

    A new King of something

All hail King Burrito! New lord of the extreme sway!
Now down on your knees dawgs! (especially You...Cannibil)
I said...down on your knees dawgs!

So sorry sire...it's seems that your most loyal subject Cannibil has put some sort of spell on them, and they won't respond to your wishes.
Shall I call for your just returned court jester....Hawk-eye ... and tell Shug to hit the road toad?
I could tell him that it just wasn't working out ...or maybe lie to him one more time ...he wouldn't know the diff. anyways, and yes...he'll probably cry again.

PS sure do love these smileys.

Well, apparently you and your tarp survived, so this should ratchet up my confidence with tarps in severe wind! The wind chill would have been horrific, so I suppose you also managed to block this wind pretty well with your tarp.
