    Momentum-MR vs Momentum-T

A mini ripstop VS taffeta ? What is the difference here?
I've read allot of posts with good things to say about this material not
    realizing there were two types.
I also have wondered what the difference was with the Taffeta
description on regular ripstop. I see the taffeta on allot of tents.
Thanks for any help, I'm seeing Thru-Hiker carries both.

I think the taffeta is only available in black, and is used mostly for linings. The taffeta does not have the grid of thicker yarn woven into it, that supposedly stops rips from expanding. I asked Ayce one time about the difference in regard to durability, and he had an interesting take on it. Call him and ask him, he is a great guy to chat with.

The material is really nice. You can't go wrong with it. I have made a number of projects with it, including quilts, down jacket, synthetic insulated pullover etc.

I love both of them. The weight savings don't justify the cost, but they have such a nice feel. I saw a bivy made of the M90T and I have used the M90RS for several quilts. I would use either.

While it does not have the stronger threads to stop rips, taffeta, in my opinion, is more abrasion resistant.

OWFinc.com has (or will shortly) both ripstop and taffeta in 0.9oz (20d). Basically, it's the same thing as Momentum w/o the name branding and higher price attached to it.

Thanks, SC. That's good info. Any idea how soon they'll get it? Is it as soft as the Momentum allegedly is?

I've got a credit with OWF burning a hole in my pocket, but I'm trying to be patient.

    Thanks.

They have the taffeta now, I believe. Just waiting on arrival of the ripstop. I'd give them a call for a more clear arrival date, but I heard somewhere in March as the expected time frame.

I do not know how it compares as for 'softness', but I have a feeling it's going to be the same, as Momentum is really just a trade name on a couple specific 20d materials. I know Tim Marshall over at BPL is going to be using it for his quilts and has posted that he "couldn't tell the difference in any way."
