    i changed it

after 3 years of happy, restfull years useing my hammock followed by 2 months of entertaining, educational hf visiting.it was bound to happen,a person can only absorb so many new methods, can only hear so much good advice, and can only learn so many new knotts, before he has to do something.thanks everyone for sharing so much on here.this is what i came up with.i bought all my stuff from AHE.
i made it an adjustable ridgeline with like a sls with a whoopie on each end.
i started with a 25' lengh of 7/64 amsteel.about 13' from one end i made a whoopie threading a cinch buckle through in the process .

instead of using a ring and a fixed loop to attach the mammock to the ridge,i decided to tie an alpine butterfly knot.i thickened the line thru here by drawing another piece of amsteel into my main one(50").my reasons for doing this was to give the knot area more strengh, and to have a thicker rope threaded thru my hammock.

here is the alpine butterfly being tied with the thickened rope.tied a 20" loop

i then untied my old suspension then taped my new loop to the old.i pulled out the old rope and pulled in the new.

i then had to feed the whoopie, buckle and rest of line through loop that had just been pulled through hammock end,and pull tight.

next i made another line just like the first one for the other end of the hammock.i attached the two lines together over the hammock with a ucr to form the adjustable ridge line.

i hung from it three weekends.after setting the sag and changing the lengh of the loops to13"foot end 14"head end on the first trial, i have left it alone.i like it very much.

of course i had to change my tarp ridgeline also

love these AHE buckles, seat belt webbing, and carabiners,

Adjustable tree straps---This is great! Instead of buckles (dont have any--yet) I believe I'll try it with SMC rings. Thanks for the detailed pictures. Arrowhead sent out my lines a few days ago and as soon as they get here I'm gonna try this.

I've used both, and the buckles are my favorites. The rings are huge, and require a slippery half-hitch backup.

Bravo! That is a very intricate bit of rigging. Well done.

So how much weight saving did that give you?
    Great job on the conversion.

have no idea what the weight differance is between this and the ropes that made up my old suspension.this feels heavier.i was going more for faster, more uniform setup.

Out of curiosity, why did you make the alpine butterflies so long? Seems you could have made them much shorter.

It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Formerly known as Acercanto, my trail name is MacGuyver to some, and Pucker Factor to others.

i did not know how long to make them.i wanted to make sure my clarks weathersheild would hang right.i started at 20"and adjusted them down to 13
"foot end and 14"head end.it hangs good at these lenghs and the ridge is high enough to keep the weathershield were it is supposed to be.
