Works great and allows us to adjust triangle size as needed or desired.
Thats an option. How much weight savings is there over a whoopie replacing the webbing on the corners?

The idea is to cut as much weight as possible....

Thats what Im thinking... But eliminating the rings and using a rope thimble. Its got to be lighter.

I think in TiredFeet's case the point is flexibility more than weight savings.

    It's a bridge thing. You wouldn't understand.

seriously though, there is utility in being able to vary the suspension triangle side lengths. The longer they are the less compression there is on your poles. So if you have a wide space between trees you can open the triangle up. Same job done, less force on the spreader—especially good if it's your hiking pole.

Close up trees the only choice…you can shorten up the triangle, up to a minimum point. When you gots to.

I guess Im just going to have to buy one.

    EDIT: Done.

I can see the advantage of being able to lengthen the lines that run to the corners. Geometry isnt my strong point.. But I can see less force being applied to the spreader bar when you lengthen the lines.

As Grizz wrote, it's more about adjust-ability than weight savings, but you will save weight. This is a big advantage for our Bridges since we tend to play around adjusting things to find the limits of what we like and don't like. For a person that likes to just use what the vendor supplies, then fixed length equal to what JRB supplies is probably a better option.

We have found that for equal strength rope and webbing, the webbing is always approximately 3x heavier than the rope.

Fixed length rope with eye splices on both ends, would be approximately 1/3 the weight and stronger.

You would lose some of the weight advantage with Whoopie Slings, but my guesstimate is that they would still be probably ½ the weight of the webbing.

An even bigger advantage of replacing the webbing is bulk. Webbing is just plain bulky and, when compared to rope, a pain to store in the pack because of the bulk. At least when you get used to the small volume in which rope can be packed. With the BMBH, with all of the webbing in the suspension, replacing all of the webbing with rope, a person would realize a very significant reduction in weight, but even more noticeable IMO would be the bulk reduction.
Those who sacrifice freedom for safety, have neither.

Do not dig your grave with your teeth. (Unknown)

Drats! I just ordered 100feet of Amsteel Silver to do this myself. I would be interested in a complete solution but for me it is all about weight. I will monitor this thread to see how your weights work out!

    Thanks for trying this gang!

Allright, still working on this. So far heres where Im at.

Ive removed all the rings and webbing from the BMBH.

I replaced the rings on the hammock with stainless steel rope thimbles. They weigh 2 grams each. For comparison, each ring weighed 14 grams. For the lines, I have 4' whoopie slings made from Dynaglide coming off each corner. Right now I think this is going to be it. Since we use straps anyway for our tree... You can either use the MSH to attach the whoopies or use a biner.

Weight in the stuff sack without the spreader bars or webbing is 1 pound 2.3 ounces.

    thimbles

the spreader bar slots slip over an edge of the thimble? Looks just about exactly the right length.

In the lower of the two thimbles the pictures suggest a clear sleeve over one end of the thimble. An illusion?

Looks like a nice package. gonna wanna get me some of those thimbles.

Wanna hear something funny... I wasnt even thinking about the bars....

    crap.

Its a no go. they wont spread apart far enough to get the bar in.... Unless you shorten the bar.

Need a bigger thimble. Those were for 1/8...

    The sleeve is an illusion...
