BMBH suspension upgrade

Java, I got my new stand up and running...

So I set up the BMBH and I can see (feel) the difference between having the top rings set at 9' and say 8'8". My measurements are skewed a bit because I made my legs longer then the stock legs. Im working with 24" legs which brings the fixed eye of the sling with the rope thimble out another 3" on either end.

SO... to simplify.. at a distance of 9'6" between the fixed eyes (which is where the top ring would normally be) It felt really good. Im broad shouldered so its a bit of a squeeze, but not to bad. I then dropped it down to 9'3" between the fixed eyes and it was very uncomfortable. Amazing what a few inches does for comfort.

I can see having a RL between the fixed eyes being just as advantageous to set up the BMBH as it is on a gathered end.

Great job, Opie! I agree with your conclusions. While a ridgeline may not be necessary, it sure makes it easier to get the sag right. I have a hard time with "pull it tight then back off a bit." A ridgeline would take out that guess work, plus help with your idea to drape the whole hammock in netting.

One could also take an extra piece of lightweight cord and mark off 9'6" and measure in the field . .this could also easily be done on the tarp ridgeline thus saving extra cord weight and hassle.

1. Set up BMBH
2. Set up tarp ridgeline. Center rings (or fixed points) under the marks made for 9'6" (Sharpie marker, duct tape, cord, etc).
3. Adjust hammock as necessary to achieve 9'6" span.
4. Deploy tarp as necessary.

Or some variation of this that works for the user.

I think, and JMO, but having the RL fixed to the rig would be better. Since youd be carrying the cord either way, at least make it functional. It will still be high enough to be out of the way when you dont have a net hanging off it, and gives you the functionality of a place to hang odds and ends.
