    Ridgeline strength?

I seem to be confused about all the different types of ridgelines. I have some 7/64 amsteel and some Zing-it on the way from Arrowhead. I was going to replace my stock hennessy ridgeline with the 7/64 but I also see people using the Zing-it for the ridgeline. I've read so many posts that I am no longer certain which is better to use.
The amsteel is 1600 lbs breaking strength. The Zing-it is about 400 lbs breaking strength. Is the 7/64 overkill?
My thanks to all who can un-confuse me.

Both are appropriate for ridgeline use.

The 7/64" Amsteel is stronger than necessary, but it's both thin enough and light enough that there is no reason to avoid it.

    Thanks angrysparrow.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know the type or breaking strength of ridgeline hennessy uses?

300 pounds was my guesstimate on my HHULBP with i popped mine. If you dont stress it like I did doing something stupid the stock HH ridgeline is fine.

Why are you wanting to replace the stock ridgeline?

I talked to one guy who had two of the stock HH ridge lines snap, he said one of them got his wife across the face when it went. I tend to error on the side of OverKill my self but I know that there are some folks using either line for ridge lines.

We use the 1.75 mm Lash-It for our ridge lines. No problem.

The biggest problem that people make when using a ridge line is to pull the suspension and ridge line tight - Not necessary.

Only pull the suspension to the point that you have approximately a 25° to 30° angle at the tree when the hammock is occupied. Takes some experimenting but you soon learn approximately how to hang it.

For our Bridges, we pull the suspension + ridge line tight and then back off about 2" to 3". Works great for us.

With that, the ridge line is only slightly tensioned when we get in the hammock. With the slight tension we have on the ridge line, even the 1.75 mm Lash-It is overkill.

Thanks, everyone. I've never snapped a ridgeline but due to being "uninformed" for a long time its a wonder I didnt. I know better now and really only use the RL as a guide and a place to hang my book and glasses from. My hennessy didnt come with clear instructions and I used to pull the ropes tight enough to make the RL twang!
I'll be using the zing-it for an adjustable RL. So thanks again for the quick answers and for the peace of mind!

if you ever do need to hang from far trees, having the option of a tight hang is nice to have. pulling the rl tight is never the best thing to do, but it's nice to know your rl can handle it if you need it to. i like the 7/64 for that reason.

I have been playing with opie's whoopie sling ridgeline .... easily adjustable if needed to tweak for a long wide hang. I like it ... like it a lot so far.
The only lil' thing to watch for on it is not to tighten it all the way on the adjustable end ... hard to get it loose then.
I will show some of it in a video soonest.

Yeah, the max distance I've hung from so far is 25 ft. Had to put the tree straps up to 8 or 9 ft high pushing them up with a stick.
