    Differential cut for synthetic sleeves?

    Hey all,

I am planning on making a pair of apex 2.5 sleeves, but have never worked with insulation before.

I have my process laid out, and even the dimensions, but am unsure of one thing.

Should I be differentially cutting the fabric of the sleeves to accommodate the insulation with only apex 2.5, or should it not really matter?

Also, If I do need to differentially cut the apex, then is there a general formula I can use to figure out how much the larger fabric should be? I figured I'd probably add 3/4 of an inch onto the larger fabric to accommodate, but am unsure if this is not enough or possibly too much.

    Thanks!

For apex I've always used (2 * insulation thickness) added to outer length & width, or slightly less to avoid baggy fabric (i.e. x 0.9).

In some of the quilt threads there are examples of adding corners to accommodate/take up the extra fabric, although for 2.5 I may not bother.
It is a very alert, active sheep, with a stylish, lively carriage.

I use a Juki & Pfaffs w/ assorted attachments, and have serviced lots of vintage machines. Any questions?

I think you may be right. I don't think I'm going to try to differentially cut the fabric this time around, but I do think I need to account for the loft in some way.

I was thinking of cutting the fabric (both pieces) (1/2 * the thickness of the apex) to account for losing fabric due to the loft.

So, If I want a total length on the sleeves to be 31 inches, and a max width of 19 inches, then I would add seam allowance + 1/2 the thickness of the apex to both the length and width and cut both fabric layers at those dimensions.

Would you think that this will be sufficient to account for fabric lost due to loft, or not enough?

    Thanks!

    Hey all,
Just an update in case someone has this question in the future. I finished the sleeves today and the 2.5 apex definitely did not need a differential cut.

Haha, I forgot the best part! This project was relatively straight forward, but I must say: the climashield became a monster of a size after sewing.IMG_1049.jpgIMG_1050.jpg
