Hammock Wiki?
Is there a hammock wiki? If not, why?
There is an abundance of really good ideas on these forums. These ideas tend to get buried by time, however. This leads to people reinventing wheels.
If all of these good ideas could be sorted and cataloged, it would make it more accessible for research and additions. I want to be able to see all of Kitsap Cowboy's tarp designs in one place ;-)
Thoughts?
For me one site is enough to keep up with and using a Google search to research a topic is a lot easier than a WIKI which tends to only be as good as those managing it and become spam repositories these days.
Can't go wrong with Google search. It drives me crazy when I see a new thread started on a subject or question that has been answered and discussed many times before. Do you use PermethrinI've seen this question asked 10 times each year for the last several. Some do not know how to use the keyword Google search. Try Permethrin site:hammockforums.net in Google and you'll get a good answer or two.
If we didn't have people asking the same questions over and over, this place would be a lot less active.
That's true. But it's a gray area. We don't want all searches and few replies. At the same time, we don't want a new thread every time someone has an underquilt issue, or tarp suggestion. By skipping those existing threads you could me missing valuable feedback from the vendors themselves, ideas from oldschool experienced users that are no longer here, and the possibility of overall better quality and quantity feedback in general.
A wiki is likely overkill. But what about a list with products , weight, dimensions?
I think there was an excel file with it before, but then it stopped working, and now I can't find it.
Something like that on the site could be useful as a quick information guide. And given that it just has the bare bones, there would still be questions about products.

i agree. i was surprised at how active this board was when i first joined. but all the "new" stuff i was reading back then was actually the same stuff that gets talked about over and over. it's great for new people when they join and keeps them engaged.
what irritates me more are the fanboys(girls). people here tend to take negative vendor experiences way too personally.
